Egg Quality, Nutrition and Cost Savings: Home Fresh Study Results
In a head-to-head study, we compared Home Fresh Extra Egg Layer to a leading national brand to see which feed truly delivers when it comes to egg production. We evaluated key performance metrics including cost per egg, egg quality (including shell thickness, shell strength and yolk color), taste and nutrient content.
According to Michael Edmonds, Ph.D., Vice President of Swine and Poultry Nutrition, the results were clear:
“Hens fed Home Fresh Extra Egg Layer consumed less feed overall—thanks to its higher-energy formula, while still meeting their daily energy needs. In contrast, hens on the lower-energy national brand had to eat more to get the same nutrition, driving up feed costs.”
The research also showed that hens fed Home Fresh produced eggs with stronger shells, deeper orange-yellow colored yolks and had a lower cost per egg compared to those fed the leading national brand. In sensory evaluations conducted at Iowa State University, participants also consistently preferred both the yolk color and taste of Home Fresh eggs.
To top it off, nutrient analysis revealed that eggs from layers fed Home Fresh had higher levels of key nutrients, including:
- 85% higher in Vitamin E
- 45% higher in Manganese
- 17% higher in Vitamin A
- 6% higher in Zinc
From helping promote healthy skin and clear vision to strengthening the immune system and combating stress and inflammation, these nutrients play a vital role in overall human health. Making every egg not just a great source of protein, but a nutritional powerhouse.
Choosing the right chicken feed isn’t just about keeping your hens happy—it’s the key to producing top-quality eggs in the most cost-effective way. Home Fresh isn’t just a superior feed, it’s a smarter investment for your hens, health and wallet. The bottom line is that hens fed Home Fresh Extra Egg Layer produce more nutritious, better-tasting eggs at a lower cost. That’s a win for both your flock and your family.
