Frequently Asked Questions To help you get to know us better, here's a round-up of common questions about Kent. What is the history of Kent? Just like many of our customers, the Kent brand was born in America’s heartland. In 1927, Gage Kent started the company in Indianola, Iowa, with one goal: to offer high-quality products made with the best nutritional feed ingredients. With this quality-first philosophy, the Kent brand has built its reputation among its customers throughout the Midwest. You can find out more about the history of Kent on our Kent Brand History page. What is Kent’s brand promise? Quality animal nutrition that you can trust — guaranteed. How can I become a dealer/distributor of your product(s)? The Kent and Blue Seal brands were brought together by the Kent Corporation to form a new division called Kent Nutrition Group in 2010. Founded in 1927, Kent has grown to become a leading animal nutrition brand in the Midwest. Blue Seal began in 1868 and has since grown into a leading animal nutrition brand in the East. Together, the Kent and Blue Seal brands are the most trusted and preeminent regionally focused animal nutrition brands in the United States. Where can I purchase Kent products? We hold our products to the highest standards from start to finish. Our commitment begins with our animal nutritionists, who perfect our products through rigorous research. It continues at our Product Development Center — an 800-acre research campus, where we run real-world product analysis. And our quality products are manufactured and tested every day at our award-winning plants, which ensures our products are consistent and safe. Does Kent have any products that are compatible with my “natural” program? We offer a limited line of Kent natural products for certain species. It’s important to review the guaranteed analysis and the ingredient statement to ensure that the product fits the guidelines of your particular program. The best way to find out more about the products is to visit our Product Lines page. You can also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 866-647-1212, extension 1. What is your GMO position? Improving our food by modifying the genetic structure of plants and animals is not a new concept. For centuries, farmers have applied their ingenuity to enrich our food supply through hybridization; that is, by crossbreeding plants or animals to improve palatability, yield, growth, or to help them thrive under specific harsh conditions. The result of this genetic modification is thousands of crops and animal varieties that feed billions of people around the world. With current technologies, genetic modifications have become prevalent, meaning a vast majority of the production crops planted in the US are genetically modified. Because feed grain is purchased in mass quantities from enormous storage facilities where grains are co-mingled, it is nearly impossible to tell which grain has been genetically modified. While it is possible to purchase “non-GMO” grains, producing feed with certified non-GMO grains is cost prohibitive on a large scale. The good news is, the modern science of genetics and agricultural biotechnology (including genetically adjusting grain in a laboratory to enhance desired traits) is thoroughly researched and regulated. In fact, our feed ingredients are some of the most heavily tested foodstuffs in history. So, you can be confident that all Kent Nutrition Group (KNG) products under the Kent and Blue Seal brands you know and love, are safe for your animals. However, because KNG recognizes that some consumers may want a choice, KNG does offer select Certified Organic poultry feed. These products contain non-GMO grains and are regulated and inspected to ensure strict compliance to be classified as Certified Organic. The US Department of Agriculture has facts about Agricultural Biotechnology on its website: https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/farm-practices-management/biotechnology/. Can I order product online? Currently, we do not sell Kent products online directly. However, you can contact Customer Service to have select products delivered to you. For more information, please call 866-647-1212 or visit our Contact Us page. Where can I find Kent coupons? To sign up for Kent coupons, please visit our Rewards and Coupons page. Can I pick up product from a plant? Kent products must be purchased and picked up from your local retailer. Find a location near you on our Where to Buy page. What is the expiration date on my product? Because this varies by product, please email your questions to email@example.com or call 866-647-1212, extension 1. For more information, you can refer to the article entitled Managing Spring and Summer Feed Inventories. What is the best way to transitions when switching feeds? We recommend in most cases, you slowly transition your animal when changing to a Kent product or even between Kent products. This allows the animal’s digestive tract to properly adjust to the feed. To help with the transition, we recommend slowly mixing the new Kent product in with your current feed and then gradually increase over the course of one week to 100% of the new Kent product. The tag on the medicated mineral says to mix with non-medicated feed, do I have to? Medicated minerals with mixing directions are not designed to be offered free choice like non-medicated minerals. All products need to be fed according to the directions on the label. For additional information, contact your Kent dealer, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 866-647-1212, extension 1. Where can the poly bags be recycled? Plastic #5, or Polypropylene (PP), is durable, resistant to heat, and acts as a barrier to moisture. It is found in yogurt and margarine tubs, microwaveable plastic containers and lids, and has many other common uses, as well as the packaging for Kent Home Fresh products. As animal feed packaging, PP is stronger and more water resistant than paper, maintains product freshness and greatly reduces the incidence of broken or split bags and the feed waste it creates. While a growing number of local recycling centers accept #5, some may not. You can look for larger centers near you at earth911.com or preserve.eco. Some Whole Foods Market stores have plastic bag collection bins that will take #5 as well. Given this reality, we ask you to call on your creative nature to find ways to reuse and repurpose your Polypropylene bags. What are the social impact programs that Kent is affiliated with? At Kent Nutrition Group (KNG), we expect our Kent brand to personify our three brand pillars - Quality, Service, and Trust. That is why we created KNG Gives, a social impact program that provides assistance, aid, and financial support to our employees and the communities and customers we serve. Giving back to these groups through KNG Gives not only helps us express our sincere gratitude, but also lets us show that KNG is not just an animal company, but a people company as well. As a social impact program, KNG Gives focuses on finding charitable and giving opportunities at the local, state, and regional levels.
